I love going to Hollywood Bowl. The venue, warm weather, people, music and food… what is there not to like?

Hollywood Bowl offers classes for little ones and here is the description of the program and its’ 2011 schedule.

SummerSounds, our popular music and arts festival for kids at the Hollywood Bowl, returns with a musical journey through Los Angeles, one of the most exciting cities in the world, where diverse cultures influence and enrich one another in unique ways. Each SummerSounds program features live music and dance, plus art workshops guided by professional artists.

This season’s lineup includes:

The Korean Classical Music and Dance Company (July 5-15) – authentic Korean music with unique instruments and exciting, elegant fan dances
Sylvia St. James & the St. James Singers (July 18-29) – joyful gospel music
Ken O’Malley (August 1-12) – a feisty blend of traditional and new Irish folk music

GETTY OFFERS SUMMER SCHEDULE OF DAILY ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILIES

Getty Center and Getty Villa increase daily opportunities

for free family fun over the summer

LOS ANGELES—The whole family can enjoy an artistic summer at the Getty, with stepped-up schedules of free family-focused activities from mid-June to September.

Getty Center

At the Getty Center, start the summer early with a Family Festival celebrating Leonardo DaVinci on Saturday, June 5, 10am-6pm. Enter the world of Leonardo da Vinci and Renaissance Italy in this full-day celebration with music, dance, storytelling and interactive workshops.

Throughout the summer, join Family Art Stops and get up close and personal with a single work of art in a half-hour gallery experience geared for families with children ages 5 and up. All summer long, Family Art Stops is offered Tuesday-Friday at 2pm and again at 2:30. Sign up at the Museum Information Desk 30 minutes before the program begins. Art Adventures for Families is a one-hour, fun- and activity-filled gallery experience geared for families with children ages 5 and up, offered Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm. Sign up at the Museum Information Desk at 1:30pm. The Center also offers Family Art Lab every weekend from 11am-3:30pm, a drop-in art workshop designed to exercise the imagination. Don’t miss the Family Room, open all day long for drop-in hands-on activities highlighting the Getty Center’s collection.

In August, the Getty Center’s Central Garden fills with music every weekend from 4-5pm, with the Garden Concerts for Kids, free performances by some of the best children’s music performers around.

Getty Villa

At the Getty Villa, embark on an Art Odyssey for Families Thursdays and Fridays at 12pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm. The Art Odyssey is a 45-minute activity-filled journey through the galleries for families with children ages 5 and older. Sign up at the Tour Meeting Place 15 minutes before the tour begins. The Art Odyssey is also offered in Spanish.

The Villa also offers ArtQuest!, a family drop-in program, weekends from 11am-4pm. Parents and children can play the Mysteries of Ancient Art game in the galleries and do fun art-making activities in the Outer Peristyle, such as mosaic-making and painting in the style of fresco. The Family Forum is also open all day for drop-in hands-on play and engagement for young and old.

THE GEFFEN PLAYHOUSE PRESENTS Saturday Scene 2009 – 2010 Season

Each year, the Geffen Playhouse invites the nation’s best family shows to perform in the Saturday Scene and the 2009-2010 line-up is full of literary stars (from Ferdinand the Bull to Shakespeare). Perfect for kids from 2-12, the productions range from musical acts to puppet shows to worldly excursions. Each company only comes to town for one show, so it’s good to get tickets in advance. Create your own series of four shows (or as many as you like) and the ticket price drops from $15 per person to $12; subscriber benefits include advance seating and option to purchase additional tickets for 15% off during the season. SAT, OCT 3 2009	Ooooogy Green and Other Fables (recommended for ages 3 and up)
This colorful tale takes the caterpillar OOOoogy Green on an imaginative journey. OOOoogy Green is afraid to be different, but with the help of puppets, music and timeless fables, his friends teach him that the differences in all of us are what makes the world exciting.
SAT, OCT 10 2009	Crayon Court (recommended for ages 3 and up)
This large scale puppet extravaganza envelopes the audience into the world of color, art and music as the children are encouraged to participate, discover and learn in a whole new way.
SAT, OCT 17 2009	Cymbeline the Puppet King (recommended for ages 5 and up)
The Actors’ Gang re-imagines Shakespeare’s Cymbeline for a younger audience. With an oafish stepson, a docile king, a villainous queen and a young heroine, this age-old tale is a family-friendly introduction into the exciting world of Shakespeare.
SAT, NOV 21 2009	Ferdinand the Bull (recommended for ages 5 and up)
Based on the acclaimed children’s book of the same name, this show introduces children to Ferdinand, the unusual bull who prefers picking flowers to joining the other bulls in the fights, and Danilo, a young nobleman whose father has big dreams for him. The story unfolds when these two reluctant fighters meet in the bullring.
SAT, NOV 28 2009	Tom Sawyer (recommended for ages 5 and up)
Mark Twain wrote of his most famous story, “Most of the adventures recorded in this book really occurred; one or two were experiences of my own, the rest those of boys who were schoolmates of mine.” What flows from this, along the great banks of the Mississippi, is one of the greatest adventures in all literature that comes to life on stage, making the exploits of the young lad, Tom Sawyer, a delight to parent and child alike.
SAT, DEC 5 2009	Shushybye Dream Band (recommended for ages 2 and up)
Shushybye is sleep-themed entertainment for toddlers and preschoolers, but don’t be fooled by their drowsy theme. The Shushybye Dream Band features award-winning ” and highly contagious ” original songs, which are all professionally composed rock tunes designed to encourage children to look forward to nighty-night time.
SAT, DEC 12 2009 SAT, MAY 22 2010	Story Pirates (recommended for ages 4 and up)
The Story Pirates are a boisterous gang who adapt and perform stories written by kids as a way of celebrating the words and ideas of young people. Their concept promotes literacy as a vital part of early childhood education and preserves the spark of youthful creativity often lost in the transition to adulthood – but don’t be fooled by their lofty mission; these shows are about as funny as it gets.
SAT, FEB 13 2010	Jambo Watoto: Tales and Rhythms of Africa (recommend for ages 5 and up)
Jambo Watoto is a loving homage to the rich and wonderful cultures of Africa featuring stories and traditional rhythms. By inspiring creativity, strengthening cultural pride and encouraging tolerance, Box Tales engage young people in the excitement and immediacy of live performance.
SAT, MARCH 6 2010	Storm Drain to Paradise (recommended for ages 5 and up)
Through a blend of music and theater, this show tells the story of little Maroo, a girl who falls down a storm drain into a magical world of garbage islands, talking animals and flying plastic boats.
SAT, MARCH 13 2010	Waters of the Earth: Multicultural Tales of the Sea (recommended for ages 5 and up)
Waters of the Earth explores the rich folklore and mythology of seafaring peoples from all over the globe.
SAT, APRIL 24 2010	A Midsummer Night’s Dream (recommended for ages 5 and up)
This retelling of Shakespeare’s beloved story of magic in the woods features Will and Company’s signature audience participation as the audience follows the pixies, the actors and the lovers through the wondrous summer night.
SAT, MAY 1 2010	Artichoke: 26 Animals (recommended for ages 3 and up)
In this audience participation crowd-pleaser, children are encouraged join in with Artichoke and the gang as they sing songs about animals – one for every letter of the alphabet.
SAT, MAY 8 2010	Jambo (recommended for ages 3 and up)
Jambo is a musical journey that transports the audience through the roots of American music. One part Mississippi Delta, one part New Orleans street corner, and one part Chicago juke joint, Jambo is all parts fun with songs that promote self-esteem, independence, and celebrate individuality. And, of course, some are just about dancing and having fun
