I read it in numerous articles that taking 400 micrograms of Folic Acid before one gets pregnant is important in preventing defects of the brain and spinal cord. I guess it is also important to have them while you are pregnant to prevent preterm delivery, low birth weight and poor fetal growth.

I know this can be easily achieved by taking prenatal vitamins, but if you want to also try a more natural approach, here are some foods that will help you intake folic acid.

Basic food that we probably have on somewhat of a daily basis..

- Fortified breakfast cereal

- Orange juice

- Tomato juice

- Whole wheat bread

- Eggs

- Bananas

- Pasta

Here are some others that you might want to try on occasion:

- Broccoli

- Asparagus

- Spinach

- Avocado

- Turnip greens

- Papaya

- Blackeyed peas

- Cantaloupe
